1. Keep standing with heels joined, palms besides the thighs and face forward, body and mind completely at rest and thought less. Concentrate for a few seconds with eyes closed.
2. With the help of left hand, lift your left foot by bending by knee and place by the side of right thigh (keeping little pressure over thigh) Try to balance your body by standing on right leg.
3. Now join your palms (Naman-Mudra) keeping them in front of chest. While inhaling, raise the folded hands straight above head. (In another form of practice, hands are joined above head by raising them by the sides of shoulders with palms facing up).
4. Hold the final posture for a reasonable time (as long as you can), breath normally and freely and have a feeling of praying to God.
5. Come down to the original standing posture in the reverse order of practice. Repeat the performance with left leg.
Benefit of Vrikshasana (Tree posture) – Balancing of body, to some extent, balances mind also (and vice-versa). Practice of Vrikshasana enhances concentration level considerably which further helps in Yoga (Meditation) practices.
